Red & White on my Mind This Valentine Week

Something about Valentine’s Day makes one think red!!  Or red and white. Or even shades of red!! Myself, I am a girl who has always loved red. Even those personality test that match you up with a color – mine is red. Thank goodness because I would really hate it if I had the personality of a color I did not like!!

Come on inside and enjoy all the red & white.

Things I Love Week – Cupolas

I have always wanted a style of home where I can add a cupola. Or two. So far that has not happened. So in meantime I admire homes that do have a cupola – or two.  Kinda jealous.

Cupolas have a long, long history being first used as far back as the 8th century.  They began as very large structures in which there were balconies inside of the dome and a daily call to prayer would be made. They were first seen in Islamic architecture and continued in to the Renaissance period and today we are still loving this great style.  They evolved into grand and ornate structures.   Like any good architecture style – they always stand the test of time. Adding this architectural detail of a cupola it will provide valuable and interesting curb appeal that will certainly makes your home stand out.  Good design never seems to go out of style, does it?

You may think  Russia when you hear cupola – although I have heard onion tops many times.

Or you may picture a weathervane

Today they still serve as beautiful architecture. To me they are perfect eye catching detail. Without the addition of the cupola things would be just “plain jane”. Imagine this house below without the cupola. It still would be a lovely home – but it’s cupola makes the whole house demand attention.

This house has two different style of cupolas – actually the one to the left has a purpose aiding in the ventilation of the home  and the one to the right has a clock. How cool is that – I would always know what time I got home if I had a clock over my garage. Very cool detail.

Pretty much in love with this house………….not only do I love that it has a cupola but check out that front window and the roof line. Yes sir! Great detail.

OH MY!! I think I could be one happy girl in this home. So much detail to take in. Seriously, take some time looking at this home. It is quite lovely!! Just wonder what the rest of the home looks like. Bet the inside is awesome.

Have a barn sitting in your back yard?? I don’t either – but I think this is a pretty awesome barn. Actually, I love to look at old barn when we take car trips. I find the two windows in this barns cupola interesting……….one square and one rectangle.   I think old barns have lots of character. I know, I may be a tad weird.

Hmmm – now after writing this post I think I have found a place for maybe one or two cupolas. Will need to have to add it to the long list of “wants”!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend !

Things I Love Week – Copper Gutters, Downspouts & Water Chains

A friend of mine has a new house going up next door to her. This week they have been installing the gutters on the house – ahhhhh and they’re copper.  I love copper gutters!Using copper gutters is just another “attention to detail”.  It really makes a home stand out in a crowd!  Normally when a house is having gutters installed, you don’t even look twice. But when they’re copper………..you just notice! Now today they’re a bit too “copper” if ya know what I mean. Even my friend thought they were a bit garish. Just wait I told her……. and they will have the best patina ever!! Ever!! In my dream home I will have copper gutters.

Unfortunately, I did not have my camera with me when I was at my friends house but here are some houses with copper gutters.cooper

What I really, really, REALLY gets me excited are copper”leader heads”. Honestly, when I saw them the first time I had no earthly idea what they were called. Just knew I liked them. I liked them because they made such a different – again, that little detail that makes such a difference! Regardless of what your gutters are you can get leader heads made in any materail

This is a “leader head” – very strange name if ya ask me!!

cds

Look at all the options you have!! Too many!

leaderheads

So, it is very doubtful that we will take down perfectly good gutters and replace them with copper. That would require us winning the lottery.

So in the meantime…………….I will satisfy myself with a copper rain chains. Don’t know if you have ever been able to watch a rain chain when it is actually raining – but they are quite mesmerizing. If it would ever rain, I could show you ours………..but it seems like we are in a drought here in Tulsa, Oklahoma…….but Mr. Weatherman says rain is in our future!! Come on rain. We need you bad. Real, real bad!!

Are you a fan of copper gutters? Or have you even thought what an impact copper gutters could make on your home?? Hopefully, seeing these photos have made you see what a difference they can make in your home’s “curb appeal”.

Let me know what you think of copper gutters.

Thanks for visiting!!

Things I Love Week – Silver Champagne Buckets

SO !! Whether you call it a Champagne bucket or Champagne urn – it’s not just for stashing your bubbly.  I’m personally partial to the Champagne bucket that is in the urn style.  Silver  Champagne urns don’t have to be used in  fancy and formal settings.   Like the post on silver trays I did yesterday – champagne urns have tons of uses.  Just use you creativity.

We have a pair of champagne urns – they are either used separately in different rooms of the house or it seems during the holidays I do use them as a pair. At Christmas I use them to hold small Christmas trees and then at Easter they hold egg topiaries.  Right now  I have one of them by the stove in the kitchen to hold our utensils.

You can find Champagne Buckets at estate sales, consignment stores,  Ebay, or Etsy.  If you want to be frugal you can find them in silver plate.  I even saw some as little as $35.

Thank you for visiting. I hope this post has given you some inspiration to go out and buy a Champagne bucket  to use  in your decor whether it is rustic or refined!!

Things I Love Week – Vignettes on Silver Trays

I have always had an attraction for silver. I love it’s luster. I don’t save it for special occasions like when company is coming – I use our silver as much as possible  even though I know it will need to be polished at some point. Not that  I can say that I  really enjoy polishing silver – it is a small price to pay. Nothing is prettier than nice and shiny silver.

Silver trays can be used literally in every room of your home. They are not just for formal occasions or should your silver stay only in the dining or living room. They are wonderful accents for corralling any of your decor into vignettes . Depending on what you put on your silver tray will dictate whether is more formal or just casual.

I use a silver tray in our foyer with pieces of cut glass and wine decanters. Imagine these pieces without the silver tray –  they would only look like a bunch of stuff!

Silver tray vignettes are not just for inside of your home. They can be used in the most unlikely places………outside!

Do you like to use silver trays in your decor? SIlver trays are either handed down in families, or  could be something you have decided to collect, or pick up at estate sales, flea markets or find through searches on ebay or craigslist.  If you are not using your silver trays and have them stored away because you don’t want to have to polish them – get them out!!! Use them!! They are little “happy’s” to use in your home. I hope by looking at the photos that show different ways to use silver trays has inspired you.
